From ideas to projects – incubator

The IMPULSE incubator: An incubator dedicated to public research development

Supported by the Research Ministry, the European Union and the authorities, the IMPULSE incubator is an open system that transforms ideas into projects and projects into ventures. This structure supports innovative projects that develop public research while promoting businesses and employment creation. The incubator is involved in the actions of the C.U.R.I.E. network and is part of the RETIS network as well as PACA Innovation.

Two years of personalised support and funding

Within the scope of quality process and as of the arrival in the incubator, Impulse offers tailor-made support with a specific “risk-based” funding (advance refundable in the event of a successful outcome) over two tears.

Acceptance in the incubator is subject to the compilation of an application file in which support by a public research organisation is a decisive screening criterion. Depending on the maturity of the project, it comes before selection boards composed of consultants, promoters of the research institutions concerned (EPST, EPSCP, EPIC etc.), legal professionals, chartered accountants, seed-funding experts, representatives of authorities, INPI, OSEO, etc. These boards then provide their opinion on the project applications for the incubator, which are further submitted to the board of directors.

Who does the incubator target?

Within the scope of its public service mission, the incubator is a tool targeting entrepreneurship projects having demonstrated a proven concept that enhance public research work. These creation projects must:

  • Be backed by research staff and/or any natural person bearing a project related to public research (supporting laboratory),
  • Move into the incubator’s jurisdiction, i.e. in the departments of Bouches du Rhône (13), Vaucluse (84), Alpes de Haute Provence (04) or Hautes Alpes (05).
  • Result in business creation within two years of the incubation. Exceptionally, those undertakings that have already been set up but are under 6 months of age, without any turnover or employees, may apply for incubation.
